Description

Have I mentioned lately how much more smooth and fun the coloring process is with a bigger screen? I have, right? Anyway, coloring this went really smoothly and it was a ton of fun. I ended up having to make some small fixes to the lines (I totally forgot the sun tattoo, and I kind of screwed up the eyes when I inked them), but other than that I didn't really run into any of the usual "dammit, I thought this was going to work" snags that always happen when I'm coloring. Pretty much smooth sailin' from start to finish, and given what a difficult process this piece was in its early stages, I'm pretty glad I didn't run into one of those big ones on the home stretch where you suddenly realize something doesn't work at all and you might as well trash the whole thing.

Anyway, this is Sublime from the Gen13 spinoff DV8 that I expect only the most hardened of Wildstorm geeks will remember at this point, although Gods and Monsters is pretty recent and well worth your time. What originally spawned this piece was a quick sketch of the character I did as part of my alphabet challenge a while back, but working on this really kind of made me remember just how much of an impact those early WS characters had on my own stuff. Her power is to... change her density? That's Shyft, although I took it in the opposite direction. And the whole imposing blonde in black leather look pretty much screams Fang. I think at some point Fang was even going to have blue lipstick and I changed it back because Shockwire already has it; I'm honestly not sure if I actually remembered at that point that I got the idea from Sublime.

Anyway, consider this a tribute to the golden days of Wildstorm comics. I'm still sad it's dead.

Full view or nailbat to the face!

Edit:
For some reason whatever dA uses to produce the reduced size pics has been really wonky for me lately. At least in my browser, the scaled-down version of this comes out much more saturated, with the skin tone looking like she's been in the sun too long, and when I hit full view, it looks fine. Anyone else seeing this or am I crazy?

Yeah, too bad all their comics died. Wish DC would start them up again, but some of them were at least brought into the DC universe.
