Deviation Actions
Okay, so... here's the thing. This pinup stuff I've been drawing for months is all well and good, and I'm having a ton of fun doing it, but we all know it's really just a substitute for actual sequential art, and the more I'm moving into action poses, the more obvious that becomes. So I should start doing comics again.
Now I've had this idea for a comic for... a long time. Ten years, actually. Irk the Spacehamster. I've got scripts and ideas for probably about 60 pages' worth of material, character sketches and everything, but the only actual result that has ever materialized is www.deviantart.com/deviation/1… I keep telling myself I'm really going to get around to drawing these stories, but I never do. And I'm beginning to think I never will. Because as much as I enjoy writing Spacehamster stories (and everytime I dig up the scripts I already have, I still think they're really funny), it's just not the type of stuff I'm interested in drawing. At least I'm beginning to think that's the reason I just can't motivate myself to actually putting up with the huge workload that doing sequential art inevitably means when it comes to the ol' Spacehamster.
But everyone who's ever been to my gallery knows I sure love drawing superheroes. I just do. I don't know why. And I've got plenty of my own characters to use - www.deviantart.com/deviation/2… , www.deviantart.com/deviation/2… , www.deviantart.com/deviation/2… , www.deviantart.com/deviation/1… , www.deviantart.com/deviation/1… , www.deviantart.com/deviation/1… and www.deviantart.com/deviation/1… are just the examples posted here, I've got more. And you should see the eleventy kazillion drawings of some of these characters stacking up around my desk just because I love drawing them so damn much.
But the problem is - while I do have some ideas for stories that might be kind of cool, they're not exactly groundbreaking material, just fun stuff, really, and I honestly don't know if that's worth pursuing either. It would basically be the 9547235th addition to the deluge of fan-drawn superhero comics on the web.
So hence my poll. What do you think I should do? It's either a comic about a hamster and a talking egg that like to kill people and blow lots of stuff up or my attempt at a superhero comic, probably with shifting focus on various characters but an underlying red thread that holds the whole thing together.
Oh yeah, if you want, read this 24-hour comic I did two years ago: homepage.hispeed.ch/bm-grfx/24… the art's a mess of course because this is a 24-hour comic, and it's not a superhero story, but the closest thing to a serious comic book I've done in recent years, and the dialogue should give you a pretty good idea of what my writing would be like - I definitely favor the more rough-edged stuff, I'm not looking to do kiddie spandex comics.
Sigh. I'm rambling, ain't I? Sorry this thing is so f'n long. I'll stop now.

Size Does Matter
I think it was about seven years ago when I decided to finally upgrade from my trusty 15" LCD that had cost a fortune and was about twice the size of its actual display to a 20". Dells were already all the rage back then and not all that expensive, so that's what I bought. That damn thing has lasted until today, and the only real hitch I've ever had was the USB hub crapping out - the display still worked like on day one. That's, you know, pretty damn cool.
But the USB hub having died was a bit of a problem for me, and given that a 27" monitor would now cost a little over half of what I paid for the 15" (make unknown, by the way - I still hav
So, is using real names the new black?
Just something I've noticed - my inbox is inundated lately with messages about people changing their handles here to their real names. Anyone else notice this? It seems to be mostly the pros and semi-pros, so I guess it has something to do with people wanting to be easy to find and using dA as a proper portfolio.
Sadly, my real name is so generic, I'm actually better off using "spacehamster" if people want to find me. Seriously, go on FB and see how many you find. On there, it's great because I don'twant to be found, but here... yeah. It's kind of made me think about doing it, though. Opinions? What do you use? Why?
Comic Fury, here I come...
Today I finally got fed up with the general brokenness of Drunkduck. Seriously, the site has been in some form of "we'll fix this soon, pwomise" limbo for almost as long as I've been posting on there, and when I couldn't post on the forums (broken as they are to begin with), quickly followed by the site going dead altogether, I really had enough. Long story short, Bulletproof will now also be hosted on Comic Fury with their usual array of URLs:
bulletproof.thecomicseries.com
bulletproof.the-comic.org
bulletproof.thecomicstrip.org
bulletproof.webcomic.ws
bulletproof.cfw.me
Take your pick. I'm also going to throw it on Smack Jeeves, but t
Bulletproof #6 Starts Today!
Yeah, the Bulletproof hype machine is firing on all cylinders, eh?
I uploaded page 1 here, and I'm updating this journal because the previous one still announced the conclusion of #5, but what you really want to do is go here to read and preferably sign up to DD and post a comment because man is that community dead.
Anyway, I've already yapped how I hated #5 and how "the next one will be better", so I'll just leave it at this for today.
Also, the coloring on this journalheader kinda stinks. Methinks I need to take another look at it.
